Overview

HCG is a glycoprotein hormone produced during pregnancy. In males, it mimics luteinizing hormone (LH), stimulating Leydig cells to produce testosterone and maintain testicular size.

Mechanism of Action

Binds to LH receptors on Leydig cells, stimulating intratesticular testosterone production and maintaining spermatogenesis when exogenous testosterone suppresses the HPTA.
