Overview

AICAR (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside) is a cell-permeable AMPK activator. Converted intracellularly to ZMP which mimics AMP. Research focuses on exercise mimetic effects, metabolic regulation, and cancer.

Mechanism of Action

Taken up by adenosine transporters, phosphorylated to ZMP. Activates AMPK by binding gamma subunit. Stimulates glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, and mitochondrial biogenesis.

Quick Reference

Common Dose 150-500mg
Frequency 1x daily (subq or IV)
Half-Life ~short (intracellular)
Storage Store at room temperature. Protect from light.

Notes

Poor oral bioavailability (<5%). Does not cross BBB efficiently. Short intracellular half-life. Research compound - WADA prohibited.
