Overview

SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a synthetic tetrapeptide that selectively targets and concentrates in mitochondria. FDA approved in 2025 for Barth syndrome. Improves mitochondrial function and ATP production.

Mechanism of Action

Binds to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing cristae structure, reducing oxidative stress, and enhancing ATP synthesis.
